How to recover tired skin during the change of seasons? A makeup artist shares skincare techniques using SK-II products

Sep 7, 2015

On September 5th, a beauty workshop hosted by skincare brand SK-II was held at Bellesalle Roppongi. The workshop's theme was "Summer Skincare." The instructor was makeup artist Reina, who has worked on makeup projects for beauty magazines like Biteki and MAQUIA, as well as in advertising, commercials, and the web. The participants were 50 women participating in "Beauty Bound Asia," a YouTube program supported by SK-II. This program aims to discover and nurture the next generation of online beauty creators, and as they aim to advance to the Asia finals, everyone was paying close attention to the stage and writing in their notebooks, trying not to miss a word from the top beauty professionals. According to Reina, as the hot summer draws to a close, skin is likely to feel dull and lack firmness. Therefore, even more careful moisturizing than usual is essential. Delivering high-quality ingredients deep into the skin will make a big difference in your skin 10 or even 20 years from now.

As a skincare product that can help achieve this, Reina strongly recommended the "SK-II R.N.A. Power Radical New Age Essence" (30ml ¥13,500, 50ml ¥18,500), which was just released on the day of the event. She revealed that she had tried the product ahead of its release, describing its feel as follows: "Not only does it have a rich texture that really penetrates deep into the cells, but the more you use it, the less noticeable your pores become."

As she spoke, she took some product into her palm and explained her usual skincare routine with gestures, revealing that her secret to skincare is to "use your palms to thoroughly penetrate the active ingredients deep into the skin."

Reina explains the reason for this as, "Touching your skin directly with your palms rather than using cotton pads allows you to better understand your skin's condition at that time." The same is true for using lotions and creams. Not only can you check your skin's condition, but warming it in your palms also has the added benefit of making the beauty ingredients more easily absorbed into your skin.

"Hands are like 'sensors' for humans. By touching, you can tell if a certain area is oily or dry, and if you sleep on your side, for example, you can even tell the difference between your left and right cheeks, which should help you think about ways to combat aging," says Reina.

In addition to choosing high-quality skincare products, she also spoke passionately about the importance of eating high-quality foods. "The human body is made up of food, right? So, in order to activate each cell and create healthy skin, it's important to eat foods that are good for the body. It's especially good to actively consume protein, which builds cells and bones," says Reina.

Needless to say, consuming high-quality protein is good for both the skin and the body. That's why, when it comes to food and skin care, she always thinks about her entire body, not just her face. "When I do my face care, I don't just moisturize my neck and décolleté, but especially with the coming cold weather, I want to carefully moisturize areas that tend to get dry, like my elbows and heels." Reina says this, and she keeps her favorite hand creams all over her room.

Of course, her favorite "SK-II R.N.A. Power Radical New Age Essence" is also lined up on the bathroom counter. Other essential items include the "SK-II R.N.A. Power Radical New Age" (50g 11,500 yen, 80g 17,000 yen), which was just released on August 21st, and the "SK-II Facial Treatment Essence" (160ml 17,000 yen), which she has been using for many years.

Whether you've never tried SK-II or are a regular user, why not follow Reina's example this fall and work hard to create beautiful skin by using skincare products while checking your skin with the palm of your hand?
