This month, the UK-based global information magazine Monocle launched a new magazine, "The Forecast." Published annually (in December), the magazine aims to be a "new magazine" that isn't swayed by trends. "We want to inspire readers and give them a positive outlook for the coming year," said public relations officer Emily Smith. The debut issue features fresh perspectives and themes from reporters well-versed in diplomacy, design, and fashion, including "Japanese coffee shop culture," which has captivated coffee lovers and businesspeople worldwide, and a field report from Kazakhstan on the situation in Russia. Another key feature is the magazine's slightly smaller book size, which Monocle refers to as "bookish." Monocle was founded in London in 2007 by editor-in-chief Tyler Brule. Monocle Magazine, an English-language magazine covering diplomacy, design, art, and lifestyle, is the core of Monocle's business, with a wide range of activities including radio, cafes, and shops. With offices in eight countries, including New York, Istanbul, and Tokyo, Monocle opened the world's first Monocle Cafe in Japan in 2011 on the basement floor of the Yurakucho Hankyu Men's Building. In October of this year, the company opened a new shop, "Monocle Shop Tokyo," integrated with its office space, in Tomigaya, Tokyo (1-19-2 Tomigaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, 1st floor, Luna Rossa Shibuya). Monocle actively promotes products in collaboration with Japanese fashion brands, traditional crafts, and local industries, including Porter, Comme des Garçons, and Arita ware. In recent years, the company has also been promoting Japanese culture globally, such as through its Hotel Okura preservation campaign. Next year marks Monocle's eighth anniversary. As Monocle has stated, "The launch of a new magazine is a new challenge," attention is likely to turn to this new development for this global leader in the miscellaneous goods industry. The Forecast is available at Monocle Shop Tokyo, Monocle Cafe, some Tsutaya and Kinokuniya bookstores in Tokyo, etc. The price is 2,500 yen.
