To coincide with Watches&Wonders, Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer unveiled a new TAG Heuer Monaco model, created in collaboration with its partner Gulf. The model features the Gulf brand's legendary colors and design, and is the first Monaco Gulf watch to be equipped with the in-house Heuer 02 movement. The new "TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph Gulf Edition," eagerly awaited by watch collectors, is available as a limited edition.


The Monaco Gulf story begins with a passion for top-tier motorsport. Gulf is synonymous with vibrant blue and vivid orange. Teams sponsored by Gulf are instantly recognizable by these colors. These colors have made Gulf an iconic presence in the racing world. During the golden age of car racing in the 1960s and 1970s, its main partner was JW Automotive Engineering, a company with a long history in endurance racing.

Many people remember JW Automotive Engineering for its overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1968, 1969, and 1975. Furthermore, in 1970 and 1971, the team fielded some of the era's most famous drivers, including Swiss driver Jo Siffert, and competed in the pinnacle of racing cars, the Porsche 917.

Siffert had a connection with Heuer at the time, becoming one of the first brand ambassadors of today and serving as Steve McQueen's driving coach in the film "Le Mans." The Porsche 917 was dressed in Gulf's signature colors, with Jo Siffert at the wheel evocative of Steve McQueen driving the same car in the legendary film, and the Monaco on his wrist... This is how the relationship between Gulf, TAG Heuer and Porsche was forged. Seeing all these elements come together, it's easy to see why this partnership became legendary and why the Monaco's iconic status was further enhanced.

In 2007, TAG Heuer decided to commemorate this relationship by creating a Monaco Edition in the Gulf colors. Since then, each model in this special collection has been a huge success and has become a highly sought-after watch among collectors.


For the 2022 edition, TAG Heuer is introducing an even more captivating version of the Monaco Gulf. Equipped with the in-house Heuer 02 movement and enhanced with a brushed and polished steel case for a refined look, the TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition is sure to catch the eye with its striking presence.


Of course, the design remains based on the three iconic Gulf colors, but this time it offers a more contemporary color combination with special dark blue, turquoise and orange. Adding a subtle twist to these new elements, the new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf models are even more distinctive and offer a more refined Gulf flair.

On the dial, the smart touches of Gulf are elegantly combined with the refined look of the Monaco. For the first time, the three colors are also featured on the minute subdial at 3 o'clock. Also for the first time, the Gulf logo on the dial is rendered entirely in white.

The opaline, sunray-brushed dial, chosen to highlight the watch's elegance, creates an interesting duality in the overall design of the watch. Finally, note the use of the numeral 60 at 12 o'clock instead of an index.


This polished and rhodium-plated numeral is reminiscent of the racing number on the Porsche Gulf racing car. The back of the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph Gulf Special Edition is further enhanced by special colored engravings on the rotor and column wheel to match the Gulf's orange color scheme. The TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph Gulf Special Edition comes in new packaging, consisting of a box and travel pouch, also featuring the updated Gulf colors. The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition will be available globally in TAG Heuer boutiques and on the brand's e-commerce site from May 2022.
