Shinjuku Isetan x Kansai Yamamoto host "Genki Festival" to invigorate Japan through fashion!

Jun 22, 2016

Isetan Shinjuku has teamed up with the "Japan Genki Project," produced by internationally acclaimed designer and producer Kansai Yamamoto, to host the "Genki Festival with Kansai Yamamoto," a summer festival-themed event from June 29th to July 5th. This event is part of the "JAPAN SENSES" campaign, which explores Japanese lifestyles and craftsmanship and promotes the value of Japanese experiences from a global perspective. During the event, "things and experiences" that revitalize Japan through fashion will be showcased on an unprecedented scale. On The Stage on the first floor of the main building, one-of-a-kind showpieces from Kansai Yamamoto will be on display, as well as revivals of iconic pieces by Kansai Yamamoto, the first Japanese designer to hold a fashion show in London. Additionally, a couture line and capsule collection created specifically for this event will be available exclusively at Isetan Mitsukoshi. Under the theme "Cheer Kumamoto with the Power of Fashion!", the lineup will include souvenir jackets and T-shirts inspired by Kato Kiyomasa, known as the "Tiger of Higo." Other items include Kansai-style collaborations inspired by festival patterns and Edo Komon patterns. Smartphone cases and other fashion accessories, as well as limited-edition special items in collaboration with famous brands such as Toraya, Dassai, Shimahide, and Premium Mario Gelateria, will be available. The TOKYO Kaihoku (Tokyo Liberation Zone) on the second floor of the Main Building will exhibit works from the "Japan Genki Project 2015," photographed by photographer Leslie Kee as supporting director last year. Items such as T-shirts with custom designs printed on an Epson printer will also be available for purchase. At West Park/Promotion on the third floor of the Main Building, one-of-a-kind collections paying tribute to Kansai Yamamoto will be presented by some of today's most dynamic Japanese designers, active both in Japan and overseas. From June 29th to July 4th, the event space on the 7th floor of the main building will host the "ISETAN SAKE Marche," which will feature approximately 150 brands of Junmai Daiginjo sake from around 100 breweries across the country. Dassai sake will be sold in packaging designed by Kansai Yamamoto. From July 1st to 3rd, the rooftop of the main building will host "ISETAN BONDANCE 2016," an ISETAN-style adaptation of the traditional Japanese summer festival. On July 1st, Kansai Yamamoto will produce the "Japan Genki Project: The Unrivaled Colorful Bon Odori Dance." The event will feature a performance by TEAM 337, supervised by EXILE's USA, a participatory project featuring Kumamoto Prefecture's "Yamaga Lanterns," and a one-night-only Super Bon Odori dance collaboration with Honoo Taiko drums.

In addition, at The Stage on the 1st floor of the main building, TOKYO Kaihoku on the 2nd floor, and West Park on the 3rd floor, Sogetsu School headmaster Akane Teshigahara and Kansai Yamamoto will be presenting an installation combining "Fashion and Ikebana" in conjunction with "Super Energy!!", which will be held at Yoyogi National Gymnasium No. 2 on July 21st.
