
Actor Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31, 1937, in Wales. Inspired by actor Richard Burton, he enrolled at the Royal Welsh College of Dramatic Art. After graduating, he moved to London. While performing at the National Theatre, his talent was discovered by Laurence Olivier, who cast him in the 1967 TV movie "A Flea in Her Ear." He subsequently steadily built his acting career, appearing in the 1977 film "A Bridge Too Far." He co-starred with some of the film's greatest stars of the time, including Robert Redford, Gene Hackman, and Laurence Olivier. In 1980, he starred in "The Elephant Man," which was nominated for eight Academy Awards. In 1992, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as the murderous psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs." In recognition of these efforts, he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globe Awards in 2006, and was knighted by the British government in 1993. Meanwhile, in his personal life, he married actress Petronella Barker in 1967, had one child with her, but divorced in 1972. He remarried Jennifer Linton in 1973, but also divorced her in 2002, and later married actress Stella Alois.
