On March 19, 2022, Louis Vuitton will relocate its store in the former Kobe Foreign Settlement and open the new Louis Vuitton Kobe store.

Located close to Kobe Port, in the heart of an area where historic charm and modern culture blend together, the new store will further deepen the long-standing ties between the Maison and the city of Kobe that date back to 1983, when Louis Vuitton first opened its store in Kobe.

The store's appeal is further enhanced by dynamic art, where diverse colors and timeless designs resonate with each other, and visitors can experience the full lineup of Louis Vuitton products.

A special window display will also be on display to commemorate the opening. Visitors will be greeted by a playful installation featuring cherry blossoms, which herald the arrival of spring, and cats, which bring good fortune.

Exterior and Interior Design

The exterior of the new corner store features a classic yet contemporary Louis Vuitton signature, creating a strong presence. The spacious façade is dominated by large windows, which are surrounded by backlit frames with a mirrored lattice pattern and three-dimensional designs of Louis Vuitton's Monogram Flower. From the outside, the store's curiosity is piqued by a beautifully curved staircase and a hanging "Cocoon" chair, designed by Ferdinand & Humberto Campana specifically for the Objet Nomade collection.

The three-floor interior design follows Louis Vuitton's latest global concept, devised by architect Peter Marino for the Paris stores at Place Vendôme and Saint-Germain.

The open, streamlined layout showcases the diverse world of Louis Vuitton. The first floor offers women's leather goods, accessories, travel products, fragrances, watches & fine jewelry. The second floor offers women's ready-to-wear, shoes, and high-end leather goods. Men's Universe and the Objet Nomade collection are located on the basement floor. The first and second floors each have their own salon.

The entire store exudes a light and airy atmosphere, centered around refined, soft materials. Entering through the limestone-paneled entrance, you'll find a floor made of light-colored stone and wood.

Specially commissioned wall furniture accented with the Maison's motifs, floating shelves displaying leather goods, and soft carpets underfoot - these warm and sophisticated interiors connect the diverse worlds of the Maison. In addition, a poetic flower petal installation created by Wanda Barcelona hangs from the ceiling of the main floor.

A Long-standing Bond

Louis Vuitton and Japan have cultivated deep, historic ties for over a century. Traditional Japanese family crests are said to have served as one of the inspirations for the Maison's monogram. Over the years, Louis Vuitton's client list has also included many notable Japanese figures. Creative exchanges have also been formed with visionary Japanese artists, embodying the brand's esprit, resulting in a variety of collaborations that reinterpret the Maison's codes over the past few decades. These connections are scattered throughout the Louis Vuitton Kobe store, paying homage to the excellence of Japanese art and design. Key pieces include the "Freeform" sofa and pouf designed by Isamu Noguchi in the women's shoe area, and chairs by Tendo Mokko in the men's ready-to-wear area. Louis Vuitton, which supports local artists around the world, commissioned Kobe-born artist Miei Sato to create murals for this new store. Large murals featuring abstract colors and shapes decorate the exterior and interior walls of the store. Additionally, rhythmic, sensory-stimulating landscape paintings adorn the elevator walls on each floor.

The Incredible Objets Nomade Collection

The timeless Objets Nomade Collection is comprised of creations made by talented, internationally renowned designers who reinterpret Louis Vuitton's heritage with boundless imagination. At the Kobe store, the Cocoon chair by Fernando & Humberto Campana hangs adjacent to the spiral staircase, and several pieces from the Objets Nomade collection are featured. The selection includes Atelier Oi's Spiral Lamp, Zanellato/Borto's Mandala, Tokujin Yoshioka's Blossom Stool and Blossom Base, Barber & Osgerby's Bell Lamp, and Nendo's Surface Lamp.
