Swarovski has partnered with costume designer Sandy Powell to create costumes for Disney's live-action film "Cinderella." Additionally, collaboration items for the film will be available at Swarovski shops nationwide starting January 30th. Swarovski, which has worked on numerous film costumes and props, collaborated with Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell, a longtime partner of Swarovski, to create the glass slipper, a key element in the story, for "Cinderella," due for release on April 25th. A team of eight people designed six variations of the glass slipper, one of which was carved from a solid block of crystal. The elegant 6cm heel features 221 facets and a Crystal Blue AB coating. The two companies also created costumes, jewelry, accessories, wigs, and props, using a total of 1.7 million crystals. These sparkle on Cinderella's blue dress and her godmother's magic wand, adding a touch of glamour to the ball. Meanwhile, Swarovski's collaboration items are inspired by the film. These include crystal figurines featuring Cinderella's beautiful blue dress and glass slippers. They also include everyday jewelry inspired by the flowers blooming in the gardens of Cinderella Castle. Nadia Swarovski, Managing Director of Swarovski, commented on the partnership, "The glass slipper is a highly technical creation, created to refract light in a captivating way. Like Dorothy's red slippers in The Wizard of Oz, the glass slipper is an iconic element of the story, and as a key element of the plot, it had to be perfect."
Meanwhile, Sandy Powell commented, "For me, Swarovski crystals are an important and original element that add sparkle, depth and color to the costumes. Cinderella is the ultimate romantic story and working with Swarovski allowed me to add the glitz and glamour needed to bring the characters to life."
The film Cinderella is a live-action adaptation of Disney's classic animated classic. It is directed by Kenneth Branagh, who has worked on films such as Thor, and stars Lily James as Cinderella and Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett as her stepmother.
