Have you heard of The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, a favorite lodging among celebrities?

Located elegantly in the upscale Upper East Side neighborhood near Central Park, The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, is a long-established hotel known only to those in the know, celebrating its 92nd year this year. The fact that it's been in business since before World War II is surprising enough, but once you pass through the revolving doors at the entrance and step into the lobby, the reason becomes clear. The interior exudes a sense of prestige and is exquisitely beautiful.

The lobby is visible immediately after passing through the revolving doors at the entrance. The gently flowing air is soothing.

The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, is known as a filming location for many classic movies, so even if you don't know the name of the hotel, many people will feel like they've seen it somewhere before. In the past, it has been frequented by many celebrities, from former President Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe to today's George Clooney and Naomi Campbell. Amazingly, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and Steve Jobs are said to have all happened to share the same elevator.

Also, because it's close to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, many celebrities are known to use the hotel's suites as waiting rooms on the day of the Met Gala every year. Countless celebrities have been snapped exiting the hotel entrance.

Incidentally, The Carlyle is also known as "the most secretive hotel in the world," and even if you ask the hotel staff for behind-the-scenes stories about the celebrities who have stayed there, they will never tell you anything. If that makes you even more curious, be sure to check out the 2019 documentary film "Always At The Carlyle." In it, many A-list celebrities who have stayed at the hotel speak at length about its charms. It's highly recommended, as it offers a glimpse into some of the many anecdotes that have taken place throughout The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel's long history.

The guest rooms are a luxurious space to be drool over!

This time, approximately 50% of the hotel's guest rooms have been renovated into suites. What's unique about these rooms is that they have been renovated by a variety of renowned designers. Each room has a different atmosphere. This time, we were given a special sneak peek at some of the rooms. We'll be highlighting two of them!

The Central Park Suite was designed by William Paley, the long-time creative director of "tonychi studio," a New York-based design firm that has won numerous prestigious awards.

This suite is approximately 1,200 square feet (approximately 111 square meters) and is one of the hotel's most luxurious rooms, with windows overlooking Central Park. The room we visited this time was on the 31st floor, and unfortunately it was raining on the day, but the unobstructed view of Manhattan was amazing. We could even see the Metropolitan Museum of Art from the window. On a clear day, the view is guaranteed to be spectacular!

The interior of the guest room is decorated in soft colors, creating a luxurious yet cozy atmosphere. Shielded from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan outside the window, it feels as if time passes more slowly here.

Superior Two-Bedroom Suite Designed by Dan Fink
This is a two-bedroom suite (Superior Two-Bedroom Suite) designed by renowned New York-based interior designer Dan Fink. It measures approximately 1,000 to 1,350 square feet (approximately 92 to 125 square meters), and both bedrooms have king-size beds. The room we visited this time was on the 9th floor, and can accommodate up to five people.

The atmosphere is more classical and chic, and the art displayed throughout the room is impressive. In one corner of the table, there was a photo book by Irving Penn, a renowned American photographer. There's also a kitchen off the living room, so many guests gather with friends to cook their own meals or invite a chef in for a catered party. It's wonderful to be able to share a luxurious time with loved ones.

Enjoy dinner at Dowling's at The Carlyle

At Dowling's at The Carlyle, a restaurant located within The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch on weekends, even if you're not staying at the hotel.

There is a semi-private room at the back of the restaurant that seats about 20 people. A party was being held there on the day of the visit.

As part of the renovation, this dining area also underwent a major overhaul by tonychi studio. The new restaurant space is incredibly stylish. All 200 pieces of historic artwork hanging on the walls have been replaced in line with the renovation. Natalie Choi, who curated the space, selected all of the works from New York-based artists.

As I was admiring each piece of art, a restaurant staff member told me, "Among these, there are five illustrations by famous children's book authors hidden." In fact, the walls of the historic Bemelmans Bar adjacent to the restaurant are covered in illustrations by American children's book author Ludwig Bemelmans, which have long been a beloved part of the hotel's identity. With the recent renovation, the hotel decided to purchase new artworks as a token of its gratitude and respect for him. When you visit the restaurant, be sure to enjoy searching for these five special pieces.

The menu is also vegan-friendly. Guests are welcome to inquire about allergies and dietary habits, so you can enjoy a meal with peace of mind, no matter who you're with.

In addition, to coincide with the renovation, Sylvain Delpique has been appointed as executive chef and the menu has been completely revamped. Sylvain Delpique has previously served as executive chef at the famous 21 Club. The theme of the new menu is "Timeless NY Classic." This time, I left it to the manager to recommend the restaurant.

For the appetizer, we had octopus carpaccio, beautifully presented like a painting. I was mesmerized for a while. The octopus was very tender and, when served with lemon puree, olive paste, and pomegranate, was very refreshing. The herbs added a lovely accent.

My friend's appetizer was the restaurant's signature escargot. The butter sauce, seasoned with tomatoes and spices, had a subtle curry flavor. It was absolutely delicious with the accompanying naan.

The main course is a special steak that is cooked tableside. After being grilled with butter and rosemary, it is finally flambéed with cognac. Tableside service was once a staple in New York, but is now rare in restaurants. This restaurant has resumed tableside service in conjunction with their renovation, and it has apparently been very well received by customers. In fact, on the day we visited, fires were lit at several tables, and each time one was lit, cheers erupted from the crowd. Despite being a top-class restaurant, the unpretentious, homey atmosphere is also part of this restaurant's charm.

The meat was very tender and went perfectly with the sauce. The seasoning was suitable for Japanese palates, and although it was a generous portion, I ate it all in one go.

The other main dish was grilled salmon breaded in Parmesan crumbs. The cream sauce and the crunchy texture of the breadcrumbs were exquisite. The truffle French fries served as a side dish were so delicious that I couldn't stop eating them, as the aroma of truffles added to the freshly fried potatoes.

The hotel also offers a variety of experiences, such as tea time at Café Carlyle, where live performances are held almost daily, and luxurious treatments by Valmont, the Swiss luxury skincare brand, at The Valmont Spa on the third floor.

Did you enjoy this undercover report on a long-established hotel from New York? While a stay at the hotel is guaranteed to be wonderful, one of the attractions of The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, is that you can enjoy a luxurious New York experience in an extraordinary space even without staying at the hotel. When you're able to travel abroad again, be sure to visit The Carlyle, a Rosewood, a first-class luxury hotel where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
