900 types of wine gathered in one place at Isetan. World Travel Wine Exhibition

Feb 25, 2014

The "World Travel Wine Exhibition," featuring approximately 900 wines from 19 countries, will begin on February 26th at the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building 6th Floor Event Hall. It will conclude on March 3rd at 3:00 PM.

This fourth exhibition, with the theme "Enjoying the World of Wine Through Varieties," will feature a lineup of various grape varieties, from "international varieties" grown around the world to "indigenous varieties" grown exclusively in each country. Winemakers from various countries will be present at the venue, and a "World Wine Bar" will be open, offering approximately 50 types of wine starting at 315 yen per glass, along with snacks that go perfectly with the wine.

A highlight will be the first appearance of Turkish wine, which was highly requested at the previous event. This wine, brewed by Turkish winery Akın Öngöl, aims to "produce wines that rival those of France," features soft tannins and a spicy yet rich fruitiness. Other notable wines on display include Burgundy wines selected by sommelier Shinya Tasaki and original wines from a wine and spirits merchant with over 300 years of history and a purveyor to the British Royal Family. A special feature titled "Sakes Competing on the World Stage" will feature rice-based sake, classified as the same brewed alcoholic beverage as wine. Sake is currently gaining attention in overseas markets where wine is the norm. This edition will highlight three breweries highly acclaimed in Paris, London, and New York. Nagai Sake Brewery in Gunma Prefecture, which offers a rare 10-year-aged "vintage sake," Nakajima Brewery in Gifu Prefecture, and Nagayama Honke Brewery in Yamaguchi Prefecture will be exhibiting.

A special website is currently being set up that introduces all wines by variety and country. Some items can also be purchased online.
