Children's author Tove Jansson was born on August 9, 1914, in Helsinki, Finland. She passed away on June 27, 2001. She was the eldest daughter of an artistic family, with a sculptor father and a painter mother. Her artistic talent was apparent from an early age, and she made her debut as an illustrator for the magazine Garm at the young age of 15. She continued her career as an artist while attending art schools in Helsinki and Paris. In 1945, Tove published the children's story "The Little Troll and the Great Flood." The character featured in this story was the Moomin, who would later become the protagonist of her most famous work. The following year, "Moominland" featured main characters Snork and Snufkin. Over the next 26 years, a total of nine books in the "Moomin" series were published. Since 1954, the comic strip "Moomintroll" has been serialized in the British newspaper The Evening News. Production of this work was taken over by her brother Lars Jansson after 1960.

The Moomin series has also been adapted for television on numerous occasions, with the puppet animation "Moomins on Stage" airing in Germany in 1959 and "Moomin" airing on the Fuji Television network in 1969.

In recognition of these efforts, she received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Writing in 1966, and the Finnish National Prize for Literature in 1984. Furthermore, the "MOOMIN! Moomin Exhibition," commemorating the 100th anniversary of Tove's birth, has been touring 10 cities across Japan since April 2014.
