Maison Martin Margiela is holding a photo exhibition titled "#smellslikememories," based on the fragrance "Replica," at Maison Martin Margiela Tokyo in Ebisu until December 28th.
The exhibition, which commemorates the debut of the fragrance "Replica" in 2012, displays works by artists, photographers, writers, and creators from around the world, and has been held in galleries around the world since 2013.
The photographs, created based on the images evoked by each fragrance theme and the memories and thoughts that the scent evokes, are sure to evoke precious memories within each viewer. The exhibition features works by 100 photographers, including Ola Rindal, Anne Schwalbe, and Mark Borthwick, whose work has been exhibited in Paris, London, Milan, and New York, as well as Tokyo-based photographers Jiro Konami and Taro Hirano, painter Fuyuko Matsui, author Akio Nukaga, and art director Akinobu Maeda. Photographer Jerry Buttles' barbershop photos evoke the clean, fresh scent of soap bubbles at "At the Barber." Images capturing Tokyo's cityscapes, pure white ceilings, and tea utensils evoke the scent of "Tea Escape," inspired by traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. These works can also be viewed online at www.replicafragrances.tumblr.com.
The above-mentioned two "Tea Escape" and "At the Barber" products will be added in December, bringing the total number of "Replica" products to seven, and they will be sold at all Maison Martin Margiela directly managed stores and Dover Street Market Ginza. Each item will be priced at 12,000 yen.
