Actor and film director Robert Redford was born on August 18, 1936, in California, USA.

His mother died when he was young, and his father's work led him to Los Angeles. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of Colorado on a baseball scholarship, but dropped out after just one year. He then wandered Europe with the goal of becoming a painter, but upon returning to Japan, he enrolled at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He initially studied stage design, but eventually changed his career and pursued acting.

In the 1960s, Redford began appearing on Broadway. At first, he was only given minor roles, but he soon distinguished himself and made his film debut in 1962's "The Sundance Kid." In 1963, he starred in the Broadway hit "Barefoot in the Park," and became a promising young actor, attracting attention from Hollywood.

In 1969, he appeared in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (Burton Kid, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) ... Redford was cast in the lead role of the Sundance Kid in "The Sundance Kid." The film was a huge success, winning four Academy Awards and earning a BAFTA Award for Best Actor. He continued to appear in numerous films, including "The Sting" and "The Natural," and was most recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role in "All Is Lost," released in 2013.

Redford also worked as a director, and his debut film, "Ordinary People," released in 1980, won four Academy Awards, including Best Director. He continued to direct films alongside his acting career, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for "Quiz Show," released in 1994.

In 1978, he organized the "Utah US Film Festival." This event later became known as the Sundance Film Festival and grew into America's leading independent film festival. In his personal life, he married Laura van Wanjimen in 1958. They had four children but divorced in 1988.
