On August 2nd, a production presentation for the Hollywood film "Equals," starring American actress Kristen Stewart and British actor Nicholas Hoult, was held at the Westin Tokyo. The film is a love story set in a stylish near-future world. After extensive location scouting around the world, Drake Doremus decided Japan was the most suitable location for the film. He was drawn to the coexistence of minimalist modern architecture and untouched nature. Filming began on August 4th and is scheduled to continue through August 28th. The title, "Equals," refers to a new species of human beings living in the future society where the story is set. They are a race that, as a result of human evolution, no longer possess emotions such as love or fear. In this world, Sias (Nicholas Hoult), suffering from a condition known as SOS (Switch-On Syndrome), regains emotions he thought he lost long ago and is treated like a sore thumb. The only person who understands him is Leah (Kristen Stewart), who, like him, has emotions but hides them. Love eventually blossoms between the two, and the story moves toward its climax. Director Drake, who attended the press conference, commented, "It's been three years of preparation for this film, so it feels like a dream to have finally started filming. While we're waiting for filming to begin, I've been enjoying sightseeing in Tokyo with the other two cast members." Kristen Stewart added, "Director Drake values the process. We've been working together to build our spirits, so we're ready to go." When asked about his role, he replied, "In life, emotions often get in the way or you have to hide your feelings. In that sense, I can empathize with the main character in this film." His co-star, Nicholas Hoult, expressed his excitement, saying, "As a child actor, I don't have many opportunities to learn acting outside of practice, but I have a lot to learn from Kristen and the director, so I'm looking forward to filming." However, when asked by the press what their impressions of each other were, Kristen joked, "I actually really hate Nick." He responded with a wry smile, but asserted, "I respect Kristen, and I believe she'll guide me in the right direction during filming." When asked if he ever wished there were no emotions, Nicholas replied, "It's true that in life, we can sometimes be bound by emotions, but it's not good to run away from them." Kristen agreed, saying sincerely, "Having emotions can sometimes be scary, but you shouldn't be afraid. Paying attention to and sorting out both what you think with your head and what you feel in your heart is difficult, but very important. I personally value listening to the voice of my heart."
