Film director Tim Burton was born on August 25, 1958, in California, USA. His real name is Timothy William Burton.
After graduating from high school, Burton won a scholarship to attend the California Institute of the Arts, an arts college founded by Disney. After a film he shot as a student was recognized, he began working as an animator at Walt Disney Studios. Just three years after joining the company, he released his directorial debut, "Vincent." He continued to direct films such as "Hansel and Gretel," "Frankenweenie," and "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp," earning him high praise within Disney.
In 1985, Burton left Disney. His directorial debut, "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," was released that same year and was a box office success. His 1988 film, "Beetlejuice," was also a major hit and won an Academy Award for Best Makeup. In 1989, he released his breakthrough film, "Batman." It grossed over $100 million in just 10 days, establishing Burton as one of Hollywood's leading directors of the time.

In 1990, he released "Edward Scissorhands," starring the then-unknown Johnny Depp. Burton and Depp would go on to team up in films such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland."
In recognition of these efforts, Burton won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2007. Meanwhile, in 1989, he married a German artist, but later divorced. Since 2001, he has been in a relationship with actress Helena Bonham Carter, who has frequently appeared in his films since "Planet of the Apes." They have one son and one daughter. The Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi, Tokyo, will be holding the exhibition "The World of Tim Burton" from November 1st. Approximately 500 of Burton's works, including sketches, drawings, photographs, and objects, will be on display, making their first appearance in Japan.
