Mina Perhonen, Anrealage, and Daito Manabe are participating in the Yokohama Paratriennale 2014, which is being held concurrently with the Yokohama Triennale 2014. The exhibition, which opened at Zou-no-Hana Terrace on August 1, is an international exhibition of contemporary art born from collaborations between people with disabilities and professionals from diverse fields. This year marks the first time the exhibition has been held, and it features exhibits, performances, and craft projects under the theme of "first contact." Zou-no-Hana Terrace has been conducting creative projects with artists and facilities for people with disabilities in Yokohama since 2009. Launched in 2011, the brand Slow Label aims to create not just physical objects but also artistic expressions. The brand will present works embroidered by members of Konan Welfare Home on mina perhonen fabric. A collaborative work with Yui Inoue, using shape-memory yarn, will also be on display, and workshops are scheduled during the core period (until September 7). The large Chanel-style jacket that stands out at the venue is ANREALAGE's "listening clothing." Made of tweed, whose fibers produce sounds, the jacket turns and sways to the music played by a mechanical device. The music is a chanson that Coco Chanel sang in cabarets as a seamstress, aspiring to become a singer. It's truly "listening clothing." Also, Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks presented "music for the deaf," a collaboration with the hearing-impaired dance group SOUL FAMILY, using an electrical stimulation device to create "music for the deaf." This tactile device was created in collaboration with Motoi Ishibashi, Masaki Teruoka, and Shuichi Tsutsumi. While the video and device will be on display at the venue, a demonstration and talk by the artist (with sign language interpretation) will also be held from 8:00 PM on August 13th (maximum 80 people, advance registration by August 6th required).
