He gathered all the audience members wearing striped shirts at the venue and used the shirts as a medium to play music. This amazing experiment was carried out by Ei Wada of Electronicos Fantasticos!, the founder of Open Reel Ensemble, known for creating the music for ISSEY MIYAKE's Paris Collection show. His "Striped Shirt Sizer," which he developed himself, connects the video terminal of a video camera to a guitar amplifier, and when a striped shirt is shown on the screen, the pitch of the noise changes. This live performance, held on February 11th at the "Digitalscape" special event of MAT (MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO 2017), a cutting-edge technology art festival held on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills, featured members of the audience wearing striped shirts. The band projected the band's shirts onto the screen, creating a high-pitched sound with the pitch of the stripes, and vibrato was added by shaking the shirts. The entire band performed together in an ensemble. Electronicos Fantasticos! was launched in 2015 as a project by Ei Wada, who repurposes discarded home appliances into musical instruments. The performance at MAT kicked off with a performance by the "Braun Tube Jazz Band," in which members used coils attached to their bodies to capture electromagnetic waves emitted from a typical CRT television, which they played as percussion instruments and played through a guitar amp. The development of the "Border Shirt Sizer" began with the idea that if stripes on a television can be converted into sound, then it should be possible to do the same with a striped shirt. The striped shirt has become wearable media. Incidentally, vertical stripes are not acceptable as they create noise.
The performance ended with a magnificent performance using a ventilation fan and an overhead projector to convert light and images into sound. This "Ventilation Fan Sizer" was performed at Ars Electronica, the oldest media art festival held annually in Austria, in 2016, where it attracted a great deal of attention.
