Photographer Lina Scheynius's first solo exhibition in Japan, "Exhibition 03," will be held at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography/Film in Roppongi, Tokyo, from December 13th to January 31st, 2015. Lina Scheynius was born in Vänersborg, a town in southwest Sweden, in 1981 and is currently based in London. She began studying photography on her own at the age of 10. She later attracted attention through Flickr, and was commissioned to photograph Charlotte Lampiling. Her portrait was then featured in Dazed & Confused, marking the start of her professional career. Since then, she has contributed to numerous fashion magazines, including Vogue and AnOther, and is currently a photo columnist for the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit. Lina, who transitioned from a career as a model to a photographer, reflects her experiences as a subject in her work. Each piece conveys her desire to reconstruct the relationship between the viewer and the viewed, and her unwavering desire to build that relationship through film photography. On her website, she writes, "I grew up surrounded by cameras and photobooks, and learned much of my photography from them. My father took many photos of our family, and I enjoyed viewing them on a projector. After I began modeling, I learned how professional fashion photographers work and what I didn't want to be." Approximately 16 works will be on display in this exhibition. During the exhibition, POST in Ebisu, Shibuya Ward, will also host an exhibition celebrating the release of her self-published photobook, "07," which she edited and published herself.
A reception will be held at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography/Film on the first day, December 13th, from 6pm. A signing session will be held at POST on December 14th.
