On February 20th, Christopher Kane presented his Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection. The show was held at Tate Britain, the national art gallery. The collection seemed to represent the passage of time, moving from traditional pieces to futuristic pieces, and finally taking us beyond Earth into space. The opening section featured a series of body-conscious damask dresses, each with a unique shape created by sharp folds, reminiscent of origami. Time and space gradually transitioned to the present, with lace tunics and skirts, and cardigans with pockets on the sleeves creating a gradual silhouette. The "repair and mend" technique seen in previous collections remained strong this season, with shirts and outerwear featuring Velcro instead of buttons. Metallic materials with a holographic effect, shimmering on dresses and skirts, further propelling the collection into the near future. A colorful journey into space took place in a dress printed with a UFO painting by Ionel Tarpazan, an American artist who passed away two years ago. Last season's Crocs were adapted for fall/winter with fur added. There was also a playful touch, with cheap sponges tucked into slingback shoes. Towards the end of the show, 3D floral appliqués made from sequins proliferated on dresses, paying tribute to the past, future, or present. The recycled and DIY elements that had been prominent up until now were toned down, giving the impression of a more refined and elegant look. Christopher Kane celebrated its 10th anniversary last season, and while continuing to use high-tech materials since its debut, this collection also seemed to explore new aspects of the brand as it moves to the next stage.
