Introducing the World Heritage calendar app.

Dec 3, 2013

The UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Panasonic have launched next year's UNESCO World Heritage Calendar app. Available for PC and tablet use in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Chinese, and Spanish, the app allows users to view a calendar featuring photos of World Heritage sites. The January photo features Mount Fuji, which was recently registered as a World Heritage Site in July of this year. A version with a "Mini Knowledge" section and a "World Heritage Match Game" is also available. The app can be used even when there is no internet connection. UNESCO and Panasonic have been producing wall calendars since 1995 and downloadable versions since 2010, with the aim of promoting environmental education through World Heritage protection. These contents are developed and provided for youth education, primarily at approximately 9,000 UNESCO Associated Schools in 180 countries around the world. In June 2011, Panasonic and UNESCO entered into a strategic partnership aimed at "raising awareness and preserving World Heritage sites" and "promoting next-generation environmental education activities within the World Heritage Education Program."
