Seiko Watch Corporation will release the first regular Grand Seiko model equipped with the latest Spring Drive movement, Caliber 9RA2, on February 11th. The suggested retail price is 1,045,000 yen (tax included).

Last year, Grand Seiko announced a regular model equipped with the new mechanical Hi-Beat movement, Caliber 9SA5. This innovative movement, which operates at a high beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour and achieves approximately 80 hours of power when fully wound, has earned it acclaim from watch enthusiasts worldwide for its high-quality dial featuring a majestic birch forest motif and its evolved design based on Japanese aesthetics. It also won the Men's Watch Prize at the 2021 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genégrave;ve).
Product Features
The silent sweeping movement of the hands across the dial recreates the tranquility of the birch forests of Shinshu.

This model, equipped with Grand Seiko's new Spring Drive movement, Caliber 9RA2, was inspired by the vast birch forests near the Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo (Time Craftsman Workshop) where it is manufactured. The white dial, featuring a delicate embodied pattern depicting a snowy birch forest, is in perfect harmony with the silently gliding tempered blue second hand, embodying the unique worldview of Spring Drive, evoking a sense of the steady passage of time even in silence.
"Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Collection"

The design of this model inherits the design grammar established with the 44GS in 1967, while incorporating a Japanese sensibility that finds beauty "between light and shadow," guided by a new design grammar that aims to further evolve essential legibility and wearability. The distortion-free case, achieved through Zaratsu polishing, radiates a harmonious brilliance. The deeply grooved indexes and three-dimensional hour and minute hands, enhanced by a powerful contrast, offer exceptional legibility. The case, designed to fit comfortably on the wrist with a low center of gravity, also enhances wearability. This design series, introduced in 2020, takes a new step with the introduction of this model as the "Evolution 9 Collection," leading the way for Grand Seiko's next generation. This name refers to the "Evolution 9 Style," a set of nine design rules devised by Grand Seiko to further evolve the aesthetics and elegance that underpin its constant evolution, and represents the brand's aesthetic sense, which will be passed down to the future. The "Evolution 9 Collection" joins Grand Seiko's four current collections: Masterpiece, Heritage, Sport, and Elegance, to further develop a creative lineup.

Next-generation Spring Drive Movement "Caliber 9RA2"

This model is equipped with Grand Seiko's exclusive next-generation Spring Drive movement, "Caliber 9RA2." By employing two different-sized barrels, one large and one small, known as "dual-sized barrels," the movement can run for approximately 120 hours (5 days) when fully wound, achieving an average accuracy of ±10 seconds per month, an astonishing level for a spring-powered watch. The automatic winding mechanism, the Magic Lever, is offset from its center position, successfully reducing the watch's thickness.
The case back features a movement with a delicate texture, crafted with a "Shinshu Hoarfrost Finish" that evokes the frost seen in the Shinshu region during the coldest months of the year, and the beautiful blued steel indicator hands resonate with each other, creating a tranquil expression.
Since its launch in 1960, Grand Seiko has striven to create the finest wristwatches, pursuing and realizing the essential qualities of a watch—accuracy, beauty, and legibility—at a high level, and has made tireless progress. Since launching globally in 2010, Grand Seiko has earned worldwide acclaim for its top-level performance and sophisticated design, which can only be achieved by a truly rare manufacturer.
