Dec 26, 2013

Ginza Mitsukoshi will hold its New Year's Festival to celebrate the start of a new year, starting on January 2, 2014, the first day of business. New Year's events such as lion dances and Nanking tamasudare will be held on the Ginza Terrace on the 9th floor of the store.

Lion dances, a traditional Japanese performing art that has been loved since ancient times for bringing happiness and warding off evil and misfortune, will parade around the Ginza store's 9th floor terrace. In addition, there will be a demonstration of writing Edo characters on wooden tags, and a performance of the long-loved traditional Nanking tamasudare accompanied by familiar chants.

The store will also be selling New Year's souvenirs featuring the zodiac sign of the horse and auspicious items. There are a variety of New Year's gifts that will put a smile on your face, such as Senya's Mt. Fuji rice crackers (8 pieces for 1,050 yen, exclusive to Mitsukoshi Isetan), which represent the four seasons and Mt. Fuji, and Frederic Cassel's two-colored cookies (6 pieces for 1,050 yen), which are shaped like a horseshoe, a symbol of happiness, to coincide with the zodiac sign of the horse.
