The largest Andy Warhol retrospective ever held. The Silver Factory recreated at Moribi.

Dec 13, 2013

From February 1 to May 6, 2014, the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi will host the largest Andy Warhol retrospective ever held in Japan, "Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal." The exhibition features approximately 400 paintings, silkscreens, drawings, films, sculptures, and photographs from the collection of the Andy Warhol Museum in the United States, as well as approximately 300 personal letters, magazine and newspaper clippings, and photographs by Warhol. Many works will be shown in Japan for the first time. The exhibition also features a near-life-size reproduction of Warhol's Silver Factory, his New York studio, a hub of the underground culture scene at the time. Visitors can experience Warhol's "daily life," described as full of experimentation and happenings. Approximately 25 video works, including "Empire," produced from 1963, will be screened on approximately 15 screens, along with portraits spanning Warhol's childhood through his later years. Additionally, the exhibition will feature a "time capsule" of archival materials that Warhol began storing around 1974, encapsulating his daily life and the social climate of the time. These include Japanese publications issued around 1974, when Warhol first visited Japan, reproductions of ukiyo-e prints, and tabi socks. To commemorate the exhibition, Academyhills on the 49th floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower will host a lecture series (scheduled to include eight lectures) highlighting Warhol's versatility and creativity. Experts from various fields will be invited to reexamine Warhol's art from various perspectives. In the Mori Tower's 52nd floor center atrium, a BMW M1 Group 4 Racing Version car painted by Warhol will be exhibited, and a collaborative menu with the Grand Hyatt Tokyo will also be available.
