A meeting to search for Jupiter by looking up at the night sky from the Roppongi Hills Observatory, "the closest to the sky in Tokyo"

Apr 3, 2017

On April 8th, the Roppongi Hills observation deck, Tokyo City View, will host its first ever "Jupiter Opposition Observation Event," offering a glimpse of the spring night sky.

This event is a special addition to the "Roppongi Astronomical Club," a stargazing event held regularly on the fourth Friday of every month (no prior registration required). "Jupiter opposition" refers to the day when Earth, which orbits Jupiter within its periphery, catches up with Jupiter and then overtakes it. This special day marks the moment when the Sun and Jupiter are positioned exactly opposite each other from Earth, making Jupiter visible in the night sky all night long, creating a great opportunity for observation.

On this day, you can enjoy the night sky from 270 meters above sea level, "the closest place in Tokyo to the sky," while listening to commentary from an astronomy expert. In addition to the stargazing event on April 28th, a seminar titled "Astronomy News and Commentary on the Next Month's Starry Sky by a Star Sommelier" (participation fee: 2,300 yen) will be held in the presentation room on the 3rd floor of Mori Tower.
