To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Vuitton, the Maison's founder, 200 trunks, imaginatively reinterpreted by 200 outstanding creators, will be brought together in the traveling exhibition "200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries (working title)." Beginning in August of this year through video or poster displays in store windows around the world, each trunk will escape the window and embark on a journey paying homage to Louis Vuitton, the Maison's pioneer. The exhibition will begin on December 9, 2021, at the Vuitton family mansion in Asnières, a suburb of Paris, before traveling to New York, Tokyo, London, and other cities around the world. The tour will culminate in a Sotheby's auction in December 2022, with all proceeds from the auction benefiting the Louis Vuitton scholarship program.

The exhibition is a vast and dynamic tribute to Louis Vuitton's innovative legacy, providing a platform for the visionary trunks to be widely accessible. As part of the Maison's milestone celebration on August 4, 2021, 200 talented creators and friends of the Maison, including Jean-Michel Othoniel, Jean-Philippe Delorme, NIGO®, and BTS, from diverse fields including art, culture, science, and sports, will pay homage to founder Louis by "personalizing" the Maison's iconic trunk. These 200 visionaries will use the 50 x 50 x 100cm box, close to the original trunk developed by Louis in the 1850s, as a blank canvas to express their dreams, desires, and abstract concepts in artistic and surprising ways. The exhibition begins with a rare opportunity to enter Louis's home, reflecting on and experiencing his life firsthand. Visitors can ascend the stairs to the second floor and cross the gallery to admire this magnificent 19th-century historic building.

Upon entering the exhibition, the first thing visitors see are trunks surrounded by LED screens and a Damier-patterned carpet beneath their feet. Here, visitors feel as if the past has caught up with the present, and upon entering the first gallery, the trunks on display seem to bridge time and space. The trunks, randomly displayed at various heights, are supported by wooden crates used to transport the trunks from one traveling exhibition to another.

The trunks, both physical and digital, created by visionaries, are housed in a mix of original art pieces and "magic boxes" covered with screen panels. This includes a robotic trunk named "Monsieur Louis," a futuristic fusion of objects and creators. Descending to the first floor, the vivid dream world, featuring trunks, animations, immersive spaces, and more, unfolds even further. Part of the space is dedicated to lifestyle, featuring video interviews and reading material. Follow the sound of music to discover a hidden entrance leading to a bar-like space. There will be a jukebox-shaped trunk created by British DJ/producer Benji B, and visitors can enjoy the upbeat atmosphere as an extension of the exhibition by listening to 200 songs that will be played from it.

Following its run in Paris, the exhibition will move to New York in February 2022, and will then move to a new location every few months thereafter.

The "LOUIS 200" project is a completely charitable endeavor, a lasting and magnificent gift. In its initial phase, each visionary donated their full salary, raising a total of 2 million euros. These funds were donated by visionaries to 15 non-profit organizations in 13 countries that are engaged in creative activities to increase young people's access to art and creativity. In the second phase, proceeds from the sale of trunks, books, and other "LOUIS 200"-related items at Sotheby's auction will be used to fund a scholarship program aimed at eliminating inequality in the creative field and supporting artistic studies regardless of financial means. These efforts will ultimately support the educational journeys and careers of talented young creators.

"200 TRUNKS, 200 VISIONARIES: THE EXHIBITION" will be held at 16, Rue Louis Vuitton, Asnières, until Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Faye McLeod, Visual and Image Director, Louis Vuitton said:
"The pursuit of creativity has always been at the heart of this project. The entire project is a tribute to Louis's keen ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. Through this exhibition, we can see how talented visionaries from a variety of fields have created their work under the same conditions, while reaffirming Louis's greatness as a person."
Artistic Director Ansel Thompson also said:
"While the window displays focused on the unique interpretations of each piece, this exhibition will truly convey the magical concept by displaying the trunks together in one place."
