Fashion designer Atsuro Tayama was born on January 30, 1955, in Kumamoto Prefecture. He graduated from Bunka Fashion College in 1975 and won the 14th High Fashion Pierre Cardin Prize. He joined Yohji Yamamoto's Y's brand and moved to France in 1978 to establish Yohji Yamamoto Europe. Feeling frustrated by the attention his fellow Bunka Fashion College classmates Chisato Tsumori and Don Konishi were getting after launching their own brands, he left Y's and returned to Japan. In 1982, he founded his own company, A.T., and participated in the Tokyo Collection. In 1989, he returned to France and launched the contemporary designer brand ATSURO TAYAMA, which incorporates cutting-edge techniques into materials and patterns while pursuing real-world specifications. From 1990 to 1995, he was the women's designer for Cacharel, and from 1992 to 2005, he served as creative director for the world-affiliated apparel brands OZOC, INDIVI, BOYCOTT, VOICE MAIL, and COUP DE CHANCE. He has also designed uniforms for schools such as Yokohama Jogakuin, ANA cabin attendants, ALBION beauty advisors, and Isetan department store information and elevator staff. In 2005, he became an advisor to Cross Plus, and in 2009, he signed a contract as director for Sogo & Seibu's Limited Edition by ATSURO TAYAMA. His current brands are the first line, ATSURO TAYAMA, and the second line, A.T.
