Sumire presents TAG Heuer watch to Ron Howard, director of "Rush"

Jan 31, 2014

On January 30th, Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer held a "TAG Heuer Special Night" event at its flagship store, Espace Ginza (5-3-9 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), in Tokyo's Ginza district, featuring film director Ron Howard and singer/actress Sumire. The event was made possible by TAG Heuer, which served as Ferrari's official timekeeper in the 1970s, becoming an official partner of the film "Rush," which will be released in Japan on February 7th. The film centers on the legendary 1976 Grand Prix race between F1 racers Niki Lauda and James Hunt, depicting the golden age of F1, often described as "ultra-sexy and glamorous." Director Howard said, "This film has no villains or heroes. It depicts two men with very different personalities, but they also share commonalities, and both are very compelling characters. From the F1 cars to the clothing, we were able to faithfully recreate the world of F1 in 1976." Sumire appeared in a Dior dress paired with bright blue pumps. Director Howard praised her, calling her "a very beautiful and confident woman." Having already seen "Rush" twice on DVD, Sumire commented, "It's a wonderful film, filled with laughs and emotions. I think you'll discover new charms every time you watch it three or four times." Afterward, since the film's climax scene is set at Fuji Speedway, TAG Heuer presented Howard with a "Carrera 1887 Chronograph Fuji Speedway Japan Limited Edition," modeled after the Fuji Speedway. This watch, a Japan-only model with only 400 pieces, was released in October last year and features a clean white design. Upon receiving the watch, Director Howard reflected on the scene at Fuji Speedway, saying, "Racing in the rain is fascinating, even though it can be dangerous. It's a very important scene, as it determines the outcome." Sumire also commented, "I felt something well up inside me when I saw Mount Fuji."
