An exhibition looking back on the history of the story "Gurigura," which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, will be held at the Matsuya Ginza 8th floor Event Square from February 27th to March 10th.
"Gurigura" is a picture book by sisters Rieko Nakagawa and Yuriko Yamawaki. Since its first appearance in the magazine "Kodomo no Tomo" in 1963, it has been a popular work that has continued to be read for half a century. It depicts various episodes in the forest and sea where two field mice, "Guri" and "Gura," live.
This exhibition will display 170 valuable materials, including fixtures recreating the beginning of the story and iconic scenes, as well as first editions and original drawings. Original drawings from the sisters' debut fairy tale "Iyaiyaen," as well as their early picture books such as "Sky-Colored Seeds" and "Treasure Hunt," will also be on display. In addition, the chairs and bookshelves in the reading corner where all the books can be read will be designed to evoke the world of "Gurigura."
