An exhibition focusing on the ceramics that genius painter Picasso was passionate about is being held

Apr 7, 2017

"Picasso Ceramics: In Search of Eternal Colors," an exhibition focusing on ceramic works designed by Pablo Picasso, will travel to two locations in Osaka and Tokyo at NUKAGA GALLERY.

Pablo Picasso, known as one of the most representative artists of the 20th century, had a wide range of creative activities, and was interested in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. After establishing himself as a global artist with his masterpiece "Guernica," Picasso became fascinated with ceramics in Vallauris, southern France. While struggling with materials different from those he used in oil paintings and new to him, he created a unique body of work, embodied by his bold ideas and the techniques of the potters at the Vallauris-Madura kiln. These works have been established as a form of art that transcends genres such as painting and sculpture, and have attracted the attention of Japanese ceramic artists.

The exhibition will feature oil paintings and prints, as well as three-dimensional ceramic works created by Picasso between the 1940s and 1960s. This exhibition allows you to enjoy the versatility of Picasso, who is still beloved more than 40 years after his death.
