Barneys releases limited edition "Ivan Valentin" chocolate

Jan 28, 2014

Barneys New York Ginza will be selling American chocolate brand YVAN VALENTIN for a limited time from January 31st to February 14th. The four flavors available are "Dark Chocolate Truffle," made with a blend of several types of cacao and a touch of liqueur; "Cappuccino Chocolate Truffle," which captures the true aroma of cappuccino in a single truffle; "White Cointreau Chocolate Truffle," which is scented with orange liqueur; and "Praline Milk Chocolate Truffle," which has the flavor of finely crushed hazelnuts tossed in sugar. They are available in sets of two (1,480 yen), six (3,600 yen), 12 (6,500 yen), and 24 (12,400 yen). A set of four (2,500 yen) will also be available for a limited time this year.

Ivan Valentin does not have any stores and sells only by invitation, with its customers including Hollywood stars such as the late Michael Jackson, Madonna, Jodie Foster, and Tom Hanks. It was first sold to the public on a trial basis in 2010, and has since received a constant stream of inquiries. As it is only available in Japan by invitation, it is rumored to be a "phantom chocolate." Barneys New York has been selling it exclusively during the Valentine's season since 2011.
