From April 29th to June 4th, the exhibition "Yanagimoto Koichi: Archivist - What Yanagimoto Left Behind" will be held at six factory in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo.
Design director Yanagimoto Koichi passed away suddenly in March 2016 at the young age of 46. He founded the label Glyph. in 2002 and achieved numerous accomplishments, including publishing, product development with companies, and exhibition production. He was also known as a collector of a wide range of genres.
This exhibition portrays Yanagimoto as an archivist (someone who collects, organizes, assesses value, and creates archives to foster future development), and conveys his ideas and activities through his personal belongings.
The exhibition will feature documents created by Yanagimoto himself and stored at home, allowing visitors to actually touch and examine the contents. A variety of items, including printed materials related to the legendary airline Braniff and past Olympic Games, and food packaging obtained from supermarkets and post offices around the world, will be displayed in a library-like manner, categorized and related.
To coincide with the exhibition, a booklet titled "YANAGIMOTO KOICHI - ARCHIVIST'S VISION" (provisional price 300 yen) will be produced in a limited run of 2,000 copies, which will introduce his achievements using several keywords and consider how his activities were intended to look to the future.
