Sid Vicious, bassist for the Sex Pistols, was born in England on May 10, 1957. He died in 1979 at the young age of 21.
Originally an avid Sex Pistols fan, he joined the band as their second bassist after their original bassist left. However, he rarely performed during live shows, and frequently caused trouble with his extreme behavior, such as appearing on stage while under the influence of drugs and getting into fights with audience members.
After the Sex Pistols broke up, he began living with his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, at the Chelsea Hotel in New York. However, in October 1978, Nancy was found dead at their home, and Sid was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was released on a large bail, but subsequently attempted suicide several times and died of a drug overdose in February 1979.

He was known as the "father of punk," loved by Malcolm McLaren, creator of the Sex Pistols, and his former partner, Vivienne Westwood, the "Queen of Punk," and is known as a symbol of punk fashion. His trademarks were a chain necklace with a padlock, a ring belt, a leather jacket, and engineer boots.

Photographs of Syd are also on display at the "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York, which opened on May 9th.
