Stokke My Carrier, a baby carrier from Norwegian brand Stokke, won the top prize in the product design category at the international design competition, the Red Dot Design Award 2013.
Stokke My Carrier is a baby carrier that can be used as the baby grows from newborn to around three years old. It can be used in three ways: inward-facing, outward-facing, and on the back, and maintains an ergonomically optimal position for both parent and baby in all carrying positions. The award was given in recognition of its functionality and design. The product also won Norway's Design Excellence Award 2013. It is available in the baby sections of department stores nationwide in Japan. It costs 19,950 yen.
The Red Dot Design Award is an international product design award sponsored by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. The competition consists of three categories: Product Design, Design Agency, and Design Concept. This year saw the largest number of submissions since its founding in 1950, with over 4,500 entries from 54 countries. These were divided into categories based on field, and judges from around the world evaluated and selected the works. Serving as judges from Japan were industrial designer Ken Okuyama, concept creator Hideshi Hamaguchi, and architect Masayo Abe.
