Celebrities' gorgeous punk style. Check out their hairstyles and makeup!

May 15, 2013

Celebrities who appeared at this year's Met Ball, a party held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, not only wore punk-inspired dresses but also hairstyles and makeup to match the exhibition's "punk" theme! Keep an eye out for the beautiful, anarchic hair and makeup that complemented the couture dresses.

Miley Cyrus showed up with spiky hair. Anne Hathaway went platinum blonde, and Nicole Richie wore silver-gray paint. In addition to striking hairstyles, celebrity makeup artists also created punk-inspired looks for each.

"It's important that the makeup complements the dress," says Erin Ayanian, who worked on Elle and Dakota Fanning's makeup. 15-year-old Elle, in particular, stood out against the other veteran actresses with her tribal-inspired eye makeup that matched her Rodarte tie-dye dress. All of her eyeliner and eyeshadow were by Nars. Leslie Lopez, who did the makeup for Sarah Jessica Parker, who drew attention with her mohawk-shaped hair ornaments, created a beautiful and glamorous look that matched the punk theme. She used Nars' new plum-colored eye pencil for the strong eyes, balancing them with a nude lip color. Kristen Stewart went for an androgynous '90s look. Her makeup was by Beau Nelson. To match her Stella McCartney jumpsuit, she used burgundy and black eye makeup for a smoky finish. All cosmetics used were from Chanel. Nelson also did Nicole Richie's makeup. Considering her white dress, punk nails, and tanned skin, he chose Chanel and MAC's matte dark red lipstick. Her eyeshadows were from Shu Uemura and Bobbi Brown.

While the combination of strong eye makeup and light lips is common overall, the dark red lips worn by Richie, Rooney Mara, Lily Cole, Katy Perry and others also leave a strong impression.
