"Fukuoka Parco New Building (tentative name)" to open next fall, aiming to capture demand with a two-building system

May 16, 2013

On May 13, Parco announced that it will open a new commercial facility, "Fukuoka Parco New Building (tentative name)," next fall.

Parco, which continues to perform well, is planning to expand Fukuoka Parco. On March 27, 2019, Parco acquired the land and buildings of the former Iwataya Main Building, which houses the current Fukuoka Parco store, and the former Iwataya New Building from Tsuzuki Gakuen Educational Corporation for 26.5 billion yen.

Due to the aging of the former Iwataya New Building, the company will utilize the three basement floors and rebuild the six aboveground floors. Two connecting corridors will connect the new building to the current store. The Starbucks Coffee on the first floor of the former Iwataya New Building will close by the end of May.

The total floor area of the "Fukuoka Parco New Building (tentative name)" will be approximately 14,000 square meters. Once the two buildings are completed, Fukuoka Parco's total floor area will increase by approximately 1.9 times. Parco will take this opportunity to expand its sales floor space and capture new demand in the Fukuoka metropolitan area, where the population is growing. Construction plans, including tenant affiliation, are currently being considered with Fukuoka Parco, centered around the "Fukuoka New Building Project" established within the Store Operations Department. Plans will be disclosed as they become more concrete.

Reconstruction of the former Iwataya New Building will begin in June of this year. Main construction will begin in December, with the aim of opening in the fall of 2014.
