Pop addict Masayuki Kawakatsu's work exhibition held at Beams in Harajuku

May 24, 2013

To commemorate the release of the three books in the "Pop Addict" series by editor Kawakatsu Masayuki, who passed away last year, in paperback, the "Works of Popholic Man - Kawakatsu Works Exhibition" will be held at TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS in Harajuku from the 31st.

The exhibition will showcase Kawakatsu's editorial work, such as film pamphlets, tour pamphlets, and CD jackets, as well as his books such as "Notes of a Pop Addict (Approximately 10 Years' Worth)," and some of the personal belongings that were the source of his pop addiction. It will showcase his "slightly crazy" work, which came to be known as "Kawakatsu Works." Merchandise featuring the exhibition logo and other items will also be on sale.

Kawakatsu Masayuki was a freelance writer and editor specializing in subculture, who described himself as "prone to obsession with pop culture, including movies and music." The exhibition features a wide range of artists, from musicians Hiroshi Fujiwara and Crazy Ken Band to Scha Dara Parr and actor Shintaro Katsu. He passed away in a fire caused by an accident last January. His columns from 1986 to 2008, "Notes of a Pop Addict (Approximately 10 Years' Worth)," "Notes of a Pop Addict 2 (Approximately the Next 5 Years' Worth)," and "Pop Addict of the 21st Century," were published by Kawade Bunko from January to this month.
