Photographer Tadao Matsuda will be holding a photo exhibition, "Akina Monochrome," at the Tokyo Arts Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of talent Akina Minami's debut. The exhibition will run from May 20th to 26th, with a reception featuring Akina Minami on May 19th. Matsuda made his debut as a photographer in 1992 with the publication of Yukisaburo Watanabe's "MODE," and has since worked primarily in magazines in the fashion, gravure, and music industries. Having spent many years working with models through his lens, Matsuda calls them "still photo actresses," as they perform split-second scenes in time with the shutter. This time, Matsuda has captured Minami in monochrome works. "I know her from her teenage years, when she was taking still photos like crazy. The way she calmly plays different characters in front of the camera makes her look like an actress made for photography. By removing the color and reducing the amount of information, the warmth she emanates and the atmosphere she reflects are conveyed directly," he commented.
