"ONCE UPON A TIME...," a short film produced by CHANEL creative director Karl Lagerfeld, has been released. The film is set in Deauville, France, in 1913, exactly 100 years ago. Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel opened her first boutique in this luxury seaside resort. The young Coco is played by Keira Knightley, who has appeared in numerous commercials as the face of Chanel and recently married musician James Righton in the suburbs of Marseille. Her aunt Adrienne, who introduces Coco to upper-class clients, is played by talented French actress Clotilde Esme. Additionally, Lagerfeld's favorite models, including Stella Tennant and Lindsey Wixson, also make appearances.
The film is entirely in black and white and is approximately 18 minutes long. Not only can you enjoy the fashion and stylish images of the 1910s, but there are also scenes depicting Coco being inspired by the fashion of the ladies who visited the store, such as sportswear-inspired designs, mannish styles, and layered long pearl necklaces. It is also fascinating to learn about the origins of the Chanel style that is still loved by so many fans even a hundred years later.
