Pleats Please Issey Miyake launches new visual series featuring cabbage and peppers made with pleats

Apr 14, 2017

PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE has launched the latest installment in its visual series, "VITAMIN." The visual series, art directed by graphic designer Taku Sato, began in 2013 to commemorate the brand's 20th anniversary. Starting with "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY," which featured Japanese sweets, ice cream, whipped cream, and pancakes using PLEATS PLEASE fabric, the series continued with "FLOWERS," featuring flowers like camellias and plum blossoms, and "ANIMALS," released in 2016, featuring expressive animals like pandas, polar bears, and elephants. This year's theme, "VITAMIN," features fruit and vegetable motifs. The visuals are currently available at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE stores nationwide from April 13th, and special "VITAMIN" shoppers will also be available from the same day.

Regarding this visual concept, Sato commented, "I tried to create the various shapes of vegetables and fruits using pleats. They are colorful, fun, and come in a variety of shapes, and they give us nutrition and energy. This is exactly what Pleats Please is all about. I think this is possible because these are magical clothes that can be transformed into anything, just like paint or clay."
