"BASE," an online shopping service, will be exhibiting at the art event "Aosando Art Fair" (October 24th-27th). Eight shops using the site will exhibit and sell their products on a rotating daily basis. The venue is the H.P.FRANCE Planning Office (GB3F, 5-17-24 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).
FASHION HEADLINE conducted email interviews with participating brands and shops. We will introduce them in relay format. This time, we will introduce "LIFEsize," a clothing and accessories brand by Mika Kanoya, exhibiting on Thursday the 24th.
--What is the concept of the brand?
We experimentally produce and sell clothing, goods, art, and paint, based on the concepts of Tokyo's downtown, street culture, and music.
--What inspired you to create and sell items?
I started making things after using a Macintosh when I was a student. I hope this will catch the eye of people who are interested in handmade, one-of-a-kind, and original items rather than mass-produced items.
--Why did you decide to set up a shop online?
I think we live in an age where e-commerce shops are essential for sharing your work. They can also be used as lookbooks, and are easy to use.
--Why did you choose BASE out of all the marketplace sites?
It's free to use and has an excellent design. There are no unnecessary ads, so it's perfect for showcasing your work. I kept the shop design as simple as possible. I was also attracted to the company's image of being experimental and putting new ideas into practice.
--Finally, what do art, design, and fashion mean to you?
They're things that are free and you can continue using them for a lifetime.
