"BASE," an online shopping service, will be exhibiting at the art event "Aosando Art Fair" (October 24th-27th). Eight shops using the site will exhibit and sell their products on a rotating daily basis. The venue is the H.P.FRANCE Planning Office (GB3F, 5-17-24 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).
FASHION HEADLINE conducted email interviews with participating brands and shops. We will introduce them in relay format. This time, we will introduce "ARTiC," a design brand created by Ishii Jo that stylishly customizes Apple products. ARTiC will be exhibiting on Friday the 25th.
--What is the brand's concept?
Transform your Mac or iPhone into a stylish, personalized piece. The concept is to turn ordinary designs into something uniquely yours. We see it as an art product in the sense that it allows you to express your individuality. Our target audience is stylish people who want to express themselves through their Mac.
--What made you decide to sell the items you sell?
When I was getting tired of the same Mac design as everyone else, I came across a product similar to the one I currently carry and loved it, but gradually I began to want to create my own design, so I made one myself. It was well received and I started selling it, which is what got me started. It started out as a hobby, but I'm very happy about it.
--Why did you decide to set up an online shop?
I opened my shop because I wanted people to express more individuality with their Macs. The number of Mac users has been increasing recently, but they all use the same design, which can be boring. Also, even if they're not currently Mac or iPhone users, I'd be happy if I could attract customers in the future who become Apple users because they want to use our products.
--Why did you choose BASE out of all the marketplace sites?
From the moment I saw BASE, I liked its design. It's simple and has no unnecessary elements, making it easy for customers to navigate. I also felt that the atmosphere seemed to be a good match for our shop. It's free, and I think it was a big help that I was able to try it out first. The products on the site are colorful, so I used a white background to make the products stand out.
--Finally, what do art, design and fashion mean to you?
They are things that allow you to express yourself and have fun.
