
Graphic designer Naohiro Ukawa was born on April 12, 1968, in Kagawa Prefecture. He is also active as a VJ, contemporary artist, and writer. He is the representative of DOMMUNE and a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design.
In 1988, he began to distinguish himself as a graphic designer and VJ. He later launched his own CD label and began DJing and writing. In 1994, he moved to San Francisco, USA, and began writing a magazine column.
He returned to Japan in 1998 and, in 2001, participated as a VJ at WIRE01, Japan's largest indoor rave. He has also worked on music videos for Denki Groove x Scha Dara Parr, and the music and video for his own music unit, UKAWANIMATION!, have been highly acclaimed.
In 2010, he launched DOMMUNE, Japan's first USTREAM live streaming studio and channel. In 2011, he began emergency broadcasting four days after the Great East Japan Earthquake, raising 7.5 million yen in relief funds and also worked on a live broadcast program to convey voices from the disaster-stricken areas. The following year, he successfully held a reconstruction support event at Makuhari Messe, featuring 105 acts and 16,382 attendees.
Earlier this year, the "1000 Celebrity Fake Autographs Exhibition" was held, showcasing "fake autographs" of celebrities that were allegedly drawn by Naohiro Ukawa using séances. The book "Naohiro Ukawa 1000," which features these fake autographs, is also currently on sale.
