This year's Easter falls on Sunday, April 20th. Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store is holding an event called "EASTER BONNET" until April 22nd, featuring a selection of items to help you enjoy Easter.
The bell-shaped chocolate "Cloch Lapin" (2,870 yen) from Les Marquis de Ladurée has an Easter-like design, with a rabbit showing its front teeth peeking out from inside the bell. The store will offer a selection of rabbit-themed foods, a symbol of Easter, including Antonio's Deli's "Asparagus and Pancetta Easter Pasta" (800 yen), which uses rabbit-shaped pasta, Merhen's "Easter Roll Sandwich" (6-pack/600 yen), which is wrapped in colorful paper with a rabbit design, and Bar du Chocolat's "Lapin" (1,500 yen), which features dried fruit topped with a white chocolate rabbit.
In preparation for parties, Merimeri will also offer party plates (12 plates/620 yen), paper towels (20 plates/740 yen), and cupcake sets (1,800 yen), all featuring rabbit illustrations, to create a fun dining experience. During the event, participants can wear Easter bonnets (hats) and search for eggs hidden in shops to receive hat decorations and egg cards in the "Easter Bonnet Egg Hunt" (first 200 people). On the 20th, there will also be an "Easter Egg Workshop" where participants can make Easter eggs (two sessions at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, eight people per session, 1,000 yen participation fee). There will also be events that can be enjoyed with pets, such as the "Easter Egg Hunt Game" (on the 19th and 20th, participation is free), where participants can search for colorful rubber toy "Tamago-chan" with their dog and receive a treat if they reach the goal. Easter is a Christian festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. While celebrations vary by denomination, like Christmas, it is celebrated with family feasts. Eggs represent life and resurrection, while rabbits, due to their large offspring, are said to represent prosperity and fertility. The date of Easter varies each year, falling on the Sunday following the week of the full moon following the vernal equinox.
This year, Tokyo Disney Resort is featuring Easter as a spring event for the first time in two years, with Easter bunnies and Easter eggs appearing all over Disneyland. Will Easter become a new seasonal event in Japan, following Halloween?
