Ronaldo becomes TAG Heuer's new ambassador, the first soccer player to do so

Apr 30, 2014

Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the new ambassador for the watch brand TAG Heuer. While the brand has been the official timekeeper for J1 team Cerezo Osaka since March 2014, this is the brand's first global contract with an individual soccer player. Ronaldo commented, "TAG Heuer is the premier watch brand with the strongest ties to the very top of the sport. Its glamorous yet unconventional appeal is the same as our players' determination to change the game and set their own rules. I'm honored to be a part of such a pioneering brand." TAG Heuer CEO Stephane Linder also commented, "Ronaldo's tireless pursuit of perfection epitomizes the passionate life we champion. He's the perfect choice to set new trends and build new relationships with our fans." Born in Portugal in 1985, Ronaldo made his debut in his home country before joining Manchester United in 2003. In 2009, he moved to Real Madrid for the most expensive transfer fee in history. In 2013, he scored 69 goals in 59 games and won his second Ballon d'Or in January 2014. TAG Heuer currently has contracts with WTA tennis champion Maria Sharapova, Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, and World Rally champion Sébastien Ogier. Numerous athletes have served as ambassadors in the past, including F1 legend Ayrton Senna and golfer Tiger Woods.
