Isetan Shinjuku is transformed into a Brazilian-inspired shopping mall! Fashion, food, and even popular anime are all here!

Apr 17, 2014

Isetan Shinjuku is kicking off a store-wide campaign promoting the charms of Brazil, "Abraços do Brasil: Embracing Brazil," from April 30th to May 6th. With the FIFA World Cup coming up in June and the Rio de Janeiro Olympics two years from now, the entire store will showcase Brazilian fashion, food, and art, drawing global attention. This marks the store's first Brazil fair of this scale. A pop-up shop for Hawaianas, arguably the world's most famous flip-flops, will open on The Stage on the first floor of the main building. Hawaianas are a staple in Brazil, and it's not uncommon for people to own more than one pair for various purposes, such as indoor slippers, the beach, shopping trips, and the pool. Ready-made sandals (¥3,200) and custom-made sandals (starting at ¥2,500) are available. In addition to sandals, the venue will also feature exclusive Isetan Mitsukoshi lace-up sneakers (¥9,900) and slip-ons (¥7,200). Stationery and original goods from Brazil's beloved comic, "Monica's Friends," will also be available at The Stage on the first floor of the main building. A signing session with the comic's author, Mauricio de Souza, will also be held on May 1st and 2nd. The Stage #2 on the second floor of the main building will feature "GRANADO," a cosmetics brand with roots in a long-established pharmacy founded in 1870. The brand's soap (90g/900 yen) is a staple item in Brazil, even available in supermarkets and drugstores. Other products from the "Pink" line, developed for women, include powdered foot salt (2,200 yen) and hand cream (2,300 yen). The women's shoe department on the second floor of the main building will feature "Melissa," a rubber shoe brand known for its collaboration with Karl Lagerfield. A Disney collaboration model will also be available. On the food floor on the first basement floor, you can experience Brazilian food culture with bottled beer from São Paulo's local beer Colorado (310ml/900 yen, limited quantity) and wines from the wine brands Mione and Casa Valduga (both 750ml/2,300 yen). On the kitchen stage, you can enjoy Brazilian home cooking that is hard to find on a tourist trip, including special dishes by Japanese-Brazilian food coordinator Hirata Mari. A wide variety of items will be collected from Brazil itself, allowing you to experience the diversity of Brazil, a country that has embraced and integrated the cultures of other countries while cultivating its own unique culture.
