Screening of "Dior and I," a documentary that takes a look behind the scenes at the birth of Dior by Raf Simons

Apr 25, 2014

"Dior and I," directed by Frdric Tcheng, had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on April 17th. The film follows Raf Simons as he takes over as artistic director of Dior, completing his debut collection during the eight agonizing weeks. It offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the brand, showcasing Simons and the artisans who laboriously bring his vision to life, as well as the brand's struggle to cope with the shadow of its founder. The film not only focuses on Simons, but also follows the suits and dresses of Atelier Tailleur and Atelier Fleur. There are many noteworthy creative aspects to the film, such as an attempt to recreate the 20th-century chain print technique, which involves weaving a fabric after printing it onto thread.

Chen has co-produced and co-directed films such as "VALENTINO: THE LAST EMPEROR," a 2009 film about designer Valentino Garavani. "Dior and I" will be his first film as a solo director. There are no plans to release it in Japan yet.
