New brand "M" by Michiko Nakayama of MUVEIL opens at Kanda Myojin Shrine

May 27, 2017

M, a new brand created by MUVEIL designer Michiko Nakayama, will open a shop in a building within Kanda Myojin Shrine (Room 302, 2-16-2 Sotokanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). The brand's three themes are "Reconstructing Men's Clothing," "Clothes that Inspire Beautiful Movement," and "Clothes that Create a High-Quality Everyday Life." The brand offers clothing that combines a modern, feminine vibe with traditional menswear detailing. Rather than using decorative expressions, the brand aims to blend opposing styles to create a wardrobe that elegantly brings out the wearer's identity, blurring the boundaries. Additionally, the brand will produce artwork that explores the brand's worldview from multiple angles, collaborating with artists from different fields. The first project will be a video work by young film director Go-o Koyano, who will also be shooting the brand's image photography.

In addition, to celebrate the opening of M, a special exhibition will be held by Kobayashi Kazuto, owner of OUTBOUND, a shop that sells domestic and international household goods. The exhibition will explore the boundary between "tools" made for daily life and abstract objects used as "tools" in daily life, with the theme of two "uses": "function" and "action."
