The 11th Shiseido Art Egg exhibition will be held at the Shiseido Gallery from June 2nd to August 20th. Launched in 2007, Shiseido Art Egg is an open exhibition supporting the work of emerging artists. This year, the 11th edition received 279 submissions from across Japan. The three artists selected through a selection process are Shiho Yoshida, Junko Oki, and Ryohei Suga. Photographer Yoshida blends her own photographs with various images found on the web to create an installation that freely explores the possibilities of photography, approaching a new dimension of photographic expression. Embroidery artist Oki, who began applying delicate embroidery in her own style to vintage fabrics, creates objects that overlap the stitches with the fabric's time and memories, as if giving new life to the old fabric.
Using the motif of the "white cube," a unique exhibition space found in art museums and galleries, Suga creates works that create the illusion of a maze within an existing exhibition space, shaking up the viewer's visual experience. Each of the three solo exhibitions will run for 21 days.
After each exhibition, a panel of three judges - Bijutsu Techo editor-in-chief Iwabuchi Teiya, artist Miyanaga Aiko, and architect Nakamura Ryuji - will select the winners of the Shiseido Art Egg Award. The winners will be announced on the website in late September.
