3.1 Phillip Lim will be holding a photo exhibition, "Japan through my eyes," at the 3.1 Phillip Lim Aoyama store from September 10th to October 10th, showcasing photographs taken by creative director Phillip Lim in Japan.
Phillip Lim has drawn much inspiration from Japan's beauty, culture, history, and people. In spring 2016, he visited Japan to celebrate the brand's 10th anniversary and express his gratitude to those who have supported the brand over the past decade. During his stay, he traveled by train, plane, and ferry, capturing various moments from his journey, including the streets of Tokyo, museums, and the art of Naoshima, and posting them on Instagram. These photographs, reflecting his deep admiration for Japan, have been shared widely.
This time, the works on display reflect his own philosophy of finding beauty in everyday life and romantic reality (the space between reality and dreams). This is also a rare opportunity to enjoy the Fall 2016 collection, which is filled with respect for Japanese culture and exquisite craftsmanship.
During this period, a campaign will be held on Instagram, inviting people to post their own images of "Japan"—scenery, objects, and events—using the hashtag "#31Japan." The photos selected as Phillip Lim's next source of inspiration will be shared on the brand's official Instagram.
In commemoration of "Japan through my eyes," the 3.1 Phillip Lim Aoyama store will be pre-selling the new Fall 2016 saddle bag "ALIX" (138,000 yen). The "ALIX" series is inspired by the beauty of everyday objects, with the corners of the bag featuring a staple-like design and the front flap featuring hardware inspired by paperclips. This newly released saddle bag is characterized by the contrasting beauty of its rounded saddle shape and sharp hardware.
