The artist duo Nerhol will hold solo exhibitions at EYE OF GYRE in Jingumae, Tokyo, and IMA gallery in Roppongi, both opening on October 16th. Eye of Gyre will host "Scenery, Scene" at the exhibition. While Nerhol has traditionally created works that strip away the temporal and superficial elements of the photographs they find, they reconsider the materiality of their work and attempt to compose spaces that allow for multifaceted interpretations of the other elements of their work. Their fifth exhibition at IMA gallery, "ATLAS," will feature approximately 40 new works, reconstructed from works such as "Misunderstanding Focus," "Portrait," and "Scene to Know," and presented in the form of a hardcover book. Nerhol was formed in 2007 by Yoshihisa Tanaka and Ryuta Iida, who are both experts in graphic design and contemporary art. The name of the unit comes from the way they work, with Tanaka "developing" ideas and Iida "carving" them. Their work has received high praise both in Japan and overseas, with some of their works being included in the amana photo collection, an amana holdings collection of works by Japanese photographers who have emerged since the 1990s.
