
Photographer Benjamin Lee, who has photographed artists from around the world, will be holding a solo exhibition, "Yayoi Kusama 'Room of Eternal Love' Photo Exhibition - The Universe of Yayoi Kusama Photographed by Benjamin Lee," at EYE OF GYRE, an art space within GYRE in Omotesando, Tokyo, from August 1 to September 6. Lee has been following the contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama for the past three years, and the exhibition features images of her energetically working on her creative projects around the world, including Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo, and Nagano. Lee studied photography at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in Toronto, Canada, and established his own studio in London in 1977. Since then, he has been active in a variety of fields. He moved to Japan in 1987 and has photographed artists such as Tadao Ando, Arata Isozaki, and Issey Miyake. In 2002, he published the photo book "Odyssey" and held a solo exhibition.
Since 2003, he has traveled the world taking photographs and holding photo exhibitions. Since 2009, he has photographed many artists and creators, including Kumakawa Tetsuya and Ninagawa Yukio, for the magazine "pen." In 2010, he held the exhibition "Sculptor Tadayoshi Sato as Seen by Photographer Benjamin Lee," and served as the main photographer for the mook book "I Want to Know Yayoi Kusama" (2012). He has received many awards, including the British Design Art Direction Award (1980 and 1984), the Nikkei Advertising Award Grand Prix (1994), and the Japan Photography Biennale '95 (1995).
